BuddyBox by Blurt Foundation review 6

I recently treated myself to a BuddyBox created and sold by the Blurt Foundation. Blurt is an organisation which pledges to increase awareness, improve understanding of and help people with depression. They have a brilliant blog, post some great comics on facebook and run a popular peer support group. You can also sign up to weekly emails from the Blurt Foundation to get some supportive words sent straight to your email. Like mental health mates it’s a way to know that you are not alone.

The other way that they support people with depression and mental health is by selling subscription boxes, called the BuddyBox. I’ve had my eye on these for a while. Initially you signed up to a subscription, which put me off and felt like too much of a commitment. I noticed that they had started a one-off option meaning that you could purchase one box rather than signing up to receive one every month. As the contents of the Buddybox are different each month and the contents of the box are a complete surprise other than the theme. So I was on the lookout for a good theme… Then I saw that March’s theme was ‘Be your own Superhero’ and as I was wearing a supergirl tshirt I decided that it was meant to be and ordered my very own box!

Buddybox day

It was very exciting when the postman delivered my parcel on Saturday. Even all wrapped up it had a sweet, fruity smell and I knew there were some fabulous things inside! All the items included in the box are intended to make you feel good: helping you de-stress, find calm, feel pampered, relax, get creative, or simply have fun. The surprise of lifting the lid to view the contents for the first time is really exciting. I had a smile on my face as I pulled out all of the items, which felt like presents to myself!

Everything in the box fitted in with the superhero theme and were really lovely items. They all felt like a treat. So in the box was: dreams and aspirations notebook, a pow cupcake bath bomb, a superhero mask craft kit, an energy boosting aromatherapy oil spray, superhero postcards, a mini zine and possibly my favourite item ‘be your own superhero’ cards which are a set of cards with courage inducing superhero quotes on them which would definitely perk you up when you’re feeling low.

Overall, I really liked my first Buddybox and I don’t think it will be my last! Next month’s theme is ‘You’re Out of this World’. As a young girl I wanted to be an astronaut so I’m really tempted to order myself one! I think that this box is a really good present for yourself. Or if you were feeling generous you could send one to a friend or family member to let them know that you are thinking of them. Discovering what was in the box certainly brightened up my weekend. I’m looking forward to a cupcake flavoured bath and making the superhero mask!
