Norwich MIND is 50 years old. Yesterday they hosted some birthday celebrations in the city centre at The Forum. I went along to see what was going on.
And there was loads going on! Colouring, massage, salsa dancing, drumming, food, smoothies, face painting, lots of stands and an exhibition all about the 60 years of Norwich MIND. I went by myself and at one point felt a little overwhelmed and tearful. All the people there and all the different support groups and charities were there to help people with mental health difficulties. Like the fantastic Time to Change initiative but also groups I had never heard of or imagined! – like the Sing Your Heart Out group and the You Are Not Alone help for those in farming and rural life.
I bought a new colouring book, developed by the three Norfolk MIND charities, with 80% of the purchasing price going straight to the charities. As you know how much I love colouring, I also added to the big colouring page they had there.
I then ate lunch sat in the sunshine on the steps in the forum enjoying the drumming – it was so loud but looked so much fun!
Hopefully Norwich Mind raised lots of money, they certainly raised awareness and looked like everyone was having lots of fun.
