Practicing Gratitude – #FridayFive 9th February 2018 6

This is my weekly blog post sharing what I am grateful for. Practicing gratitude is supposed to lead to happiness and a more positive attitude and I would love for you to share what you’re grateful for in the comments.

  1. I am grateful that the headaches I have been struggling with which have resulted in me being signed off work, seem to be getting better (I’m keeping my fingers crossed that carries on!)
  2. I am grateful for some pretty nails. I regularly have my nails painted with gel manicure. For me, while a luxury it’s a form of self care. I love to look down and see brightly coloured nails  – they’re often referred to as my happy nails!
  3. This week I was the host of the twitter chat #TalkMH which I really enjoyed. This involved choosing a topic, writing questions and engaging people in conversation. I’m grateful for this opportunity to tweet with other bloggers and people passionate about mental health.
  4. I’m grateful to have had my haircut! The last time I had my haircut I wasn’t very pleased with it. This time I chose a hairdresser based on a recommendation which was fab. I’m very pleased with the cut and now I’ve just got to choose what colour to dye it….
  5. My fifth thing to be grateful for was going to be the opportunity to see a counsellor. Unfortunately my appointment today was really difficult and not one I’m grateful for. I was put in the really awkward position of having to defend why I take antidepressants – to a counsellor!! So my number 5 this week is for warm and cosy dressing gowns, blankets, hat, scarf and wheatbags – it has been bitterly cold and I’ve needed all of these things to keep warm. A couple of times this week I have walked past homeless people lying or sitting on the street and I can’t imagine how cold they must have been.

What are you grateful for?

Join in! I’d love to know. Let me know in the comments or leave a link to your own #FridayFive gratitude blogpost.

I did write out a list of things I am grateful for, but all it did is highlight and make me think about what a struggle life is for me at the moment. I was feeling OK before I started, but now I’m just sitting here crying, so maybe this exercise isn’t for everyone.

Oh Elizabeth I’m so sorry that doing this has made you cry. Try and focus on the positives and the things that you do have in your life to be grateful for – even if you only write one thing down then that is one fantastic thing in your life to be grateful for and happy about xx

Hi, Lauren. I missed this yesterday. For some reason, I thought you hadn’t posted it, and now I see it in my queue today.
Reading your five, and seeing the comment from Elizabeth, I have decided to approach it from the other direction today, and add five things I am grateful to not have to worry about.

    1) I am grateful that I have never been homeless.
    2) I am grateful that I have never had to take antidepressants, or see a counsellor.
    3) I am grateful that I am not alone in life, or at least never lonely.
    4) I am grateful that I always had a good job, and no real money worries during my life so far.
    5) I am grateful to have always had the support of good friends or family over the years, as I know many others do not have that..

    Bets wishes, Pete.

Hi Pete, I was a bit late posting it yesterday, didn’t write it until the evening. This is a good list to be grateful for and I like your way of putting a slightly different slant on it, Thankyou for sharing!
