Day 3 of the A to Z Challenge, my theme is mental health.
C is for… Comfort
What makes you feel better when you’re feeling low? What makes you feel relaxed at the end of a long day? What do you reach for to make yourself more comfortable?
When you struggle with your mental health and you can’t find comfort in your own mind it’s even more important to find some physical comfort. Often I reach for chocolate, cookies and ice cream. Many reach for alcohol and cigarettes. But I’ve been seeking out some more natural ways to bring some comfort when I’m in a dark, worried, panicked place.
When I feel low I often feel cold, tired and numb. Then I need something to bring me comfort and make me feel more comfortable. I have read about weighted blankets having a comforting and relaxing effect for good sleep and to help with anxiety, depression, autism, stress and sensory disorders. I guess, like swaddling a baby, it makes you feel warm, secure and relaxed. The way I achieve the same affect is by curling up on the sofa under two blankets! It makes me feel safe and cosy. I have a favourite hoody which is really soft and comfortable. Sometimes if I’m feeling low and struggle to get out of bed I wear some really comfortable clothes to help me get up and face the day feeling safe and (sort of) relaxed.
Hygge is also another way I get some comfort. Lighting candles, cosying up under blankets, eating good food, listening to good music and watching a film. And I love to have cuddles with my Labrador Milly, the namesake of this blog and my best girly.
How about you? Have you got any tips to bring more comfort into your life?
Thankyou for reading,
