A few news stories and articles all about mental health…
How many of us say ‘I’m fine!‘ when asked how we are? Is this cultural trend the reason we don’t talk about mental health enough? This article implores us to be more honest and find someone we can open up to.
This article is a really interesting read about how people access mental health services and their experiences. It’s inspired me to write my story, so watch this space.
I love this lady, America Ferrera who writes about battling a nasty inner voice. She says ‘I am whoever say I am‘ and that is definitely not Ugly Betty.
Steve Clark, CEO of WHSmith talks about mental health in the workplace. It’s great that all store managers have had Mental Health First Aid training and I really hope that has impacted positively on the health and happiness of employees. The telegraph also has another article on this theme, including stories of bankers and lawyers who have experienced mental health problems. Sir Ian Cheshire, chairman of Debenhams says ‘It’s good common sense to look after your people, but it is also a duty of care we have got. That makes for a better business‘. Let’s hope other businesses and workplaces think this way too.
Finally, I also love this article, perfect for January which tells us how to make changes in our life, one section of colouring at a time! (You know how much I love colouring books!)
Any other news or articles you think I should read? Let me know in the comments.
Inspirational stuff indeed, Lauren. Especially ‘Ugly Betty’, who I have always thought was gorgeous!
Best wishes, Pete.
Great post, Lauren! I enjoyed clicking on all the links. The first couple were a little discouraging to skim through! It seems like so many people in the UK have difficulty accessing mental healthcare. I think there is a lot of difficulty accessing care in the US, but it doesn’t seem *quite* that bad – at least if you have insurance. Reading the other articles was more hopeful – like the stigma is slowly being lifted! If I come across anything good to add to what you’ve already posted, I will be sure to send it your way.
Hope you are having a good week! Take care!
Thanks Lula, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Hope you’re having a good week too 😀
It was a good week, overall, I think. Not bad for a new start to a new year! 🙂
That’s a good way of looking at it! Btw, sorry for getting your name wrong. Once I’d posted the comment I noticed my typo but I’m using the WordPress app and couldn’t work out how to delete or edit my comment!! 🙈 x
Oh, no worries! I didn’t even notice! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend. ❤️☺️
You too 😀💛
